In Motion transforms a functional energy tank into a story of movement, energy, and awareness. Positioned in Malmö’s industrial harbour, the 70-meter-tall tank marks arrival by train or car, turning a piece of infrastructure into a city landmark.
The design uses motion and flow to express the tank’s function. The façade subtly visualizes the energy inside—hot and cold water levels shift with the city’s energy use—sparking curiosity and awareness of Malmö’s energy infrastructure.
As Malmö evolves from an industrial hub into a knowledge-driven, experience-rich city, the tank reflects this transformation. With its faceted façade and distinctive crown, the structure’s presence on the skyline changes with light, season, and sky, becoming both essential technical infrastructure and a new architectural icon.
