Petal Rotunda is an adaptation of our Petal Chair Pavilion, originally designed for CHART Art Fair in Copenhagen. The project has been redesigned for permanent use in Kuwait’s climate and urban context, transforming the temporary pavilion into a multi-use kiosk integrated within the Al Andalus Market complex.
Functioning as a fully climate-controlled café space, the pavilion accommodates a rotating selection of food and beverage operators, with new concepts introduced on a monthly basis. In this way, the structure acts as both an architectural landmark and a flexible platform for local vendors.
The original Petal chairs have been replaced by a system of fully automated awnings. Easily operable, they evoke the petals of a flower opening and closing throughout the cycle of day and night, providing shade and environmental control in response to the climate.
Today, Petal Rotunda has become a lively meeting point within the neighborhood, activating the public space of Al Andalus Market and extending its use throughout the day and into the evening.
